Power Step-ups

A top single leg explosive exercise that can be utilised by athletes looking to develop explosive power, particularly combat athletes, team sports, racquet sports etc.

Start in a good solid position with your lead leg positioned on a box/bench (not too high though, approx. 12″). Keep the majority of your weight over the front leg and drive off vertically in an explosive movement. As with any explosive power work, we’re looking for quality, low rep/low volume so take your time to reset your position on each rep.

As you can see, Luke has a good level of lower body power from all the kicking, kneeing and teeping he’s done over the years.

We’re also working on getting Luke in a solid upright posture in most of these vids in order to improve movement quality and increase performance, which is why I’m always saying “chest up”.
